Mercedes-Benz is kicking off a new generation of the GLS-class and the 2020 model is the first one of them. The GLS stays at the top of Mercedes’ SUV hierarchy, being the biggest and most luxurious model, which is competing directly with the BMW X7. Performance-wise, Mercedes beats BMW in this class so the choice between the two is to be made purely based off personal preferences.
The luxury of the Benz SUV is easily noticeable in its exterior, interior and systems, which represent the high-end technology implemented in the 2020 GLS vehicle.
One of the company’s most recent systems comes as a standard option for the GLS. It is the new Carwash Function which prepares the car for a wash. It completes a few functions automatically before you enter the carwash. This new technology closes the side windows and sliding sunroof, and folds the side mirrors in. The suspension gets put in its highest position. The information coming from the rain sensor is turned off in order to protect the windshield wipers from breaking off. The climate control turns to air-recirculation mode and the 360-degreee camera gets activated to help the driver navigate the car in the carwash.
Last but not the least, the performance figures of the 2020 GLS 450 hybrid powertrain can be seen below. It is not scarily powerful; however, it is enough to tow a total load of nearly 3.5 tons.

Auto Trendy’s take:
The Mercedes-Benz GLS-class is unarguably an amazing SUV with plenty of comfort and safety features. It represents the company in an incredible way, and it keeps the company’s name of being a fascinating and innovative automaker. We, at Auto Trendy, are very happy to see technology being used in an appropriate way and we believe that Mercedes will keep doing that in the future as well.
