2021 Audi RS e-tron GT: The alternative to the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S

The RS e-tron GT is the new 4 doors/4 seats sedan of Audi, which will most likely go on sale in the spring of 2021. It will cost approximately €145,000, which puts it in the same price range as the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S. Some cheaper variations are to be expected in the future.

The all electric e-tron GT has two motors: one on the front and one on the rear axle, and that makes it a unique quattro. It stores the energy in a 93-kWh battery, and it uses it to produce 590 horse powers (434 kW). The torque has not been revealed yet, however, we have some acceleration figures below:

- 0 – 100 km/h: 3.5 seconds

- 0 – 200 km/h ≈ 12 seconds

The top speed will be restricted to 240 km/h (150 mph) in order to achieve the comparably long range of 400 km, which has been tested with the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) standard.

The RS e-tron GT is almost 5 meters long and 2 meters wide, nevertheless, it has a lightweight body with multi-material construction. The front has an arrow shape which underlines the matrix LED headlights. When seen from behind, the sloping roofline extends almost to the taillights, which themselves hug the rear of the car from left to right. The technology has been developed together with Porsche and that can be clearly seen from the body shape of the car which looks pretty close to the Porsche Taycan.

Inside, the automobile will be very similar to the e-tron GT Concept from 2019 which can be seen on the right.

It is a futuristic and simple interior made from sustainable materials. It comes with a lot of legroom, but with not so much head room. The sporty sedan can therefore be a bit of a tight fit for taller people.

Auto Trendy’s take:

Audi is taking a big step towards the future of sustainable but yet very powerful, comfortable and good-looking cars. The e-tron GT is expected to be one of the most sophisticatedly designed vehicles of the auto-maker and that is a great benchmark. What we mean is… just look at it. It is lovely.
