The 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S-class was recently released and sales are ON for a couple of markets around the globe. The German market will unfortunately only open in spring 2021.
Exterior
Maybach, as usual, made another enormous car which is almost 5.5 meters long and 2 meters wide. It combines simplicity and elegance to provide a respect-demanding presence. To dig in, the front has the typical Maybach radiator grille with a chrome surround. “Maybach” has been elegantly engraved on that chrome part of the grille. The vehicle’s exclusivity is underlined in appearance by the two-tone paint work option. Another interesting fact is that the front LED lights have reflectors which are made up of 1.3 million micro-mirrors.
Interior
Stepping inside, we see a dashboard, center console and armrests which look sculptured and floating. Optionally for the buyer, the 2021 Maybach offers up to five screens. As standard, there is one 12.8-inch OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) central display as a central console and one 12.3-inch 3D driver display. It uses stereo cameras to track the driver's eyes and will be able to create a 3D-looking interface.
Rose gold color has been used for the active ambience lighting, which is adaptive at the rear. The light options range from precise working light to relaxing light. The luxury sedan features a second-generation MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system. As part of the system, Interior Assist understands what the occupants want and assists with automatic vehicle functions.
Maybach can also recognize movements and gestures by the help of 3D laser cameras on the roof. For example, it offers the belt to the passenger when it detects them reaching out for it. Last but not least, improvements have been made on the NVH (noise, vibrations, harness) performance, specifically in the rear. It features an active road noise compensation ⇒ perfect business vehicle.
Performance
The S580 version of the Maybach S-class has a 4.0-liter V8 Twin-Turbo producing 496 horsepower. Also, there is the 48-volt ISG (integrated second-generation starter-generator) system which is capable of providing an extra boost of up to 20 hp. Another important part of the drivetrain is the 9G-TRONIC transmission which has been developed further to suit the ISG system.
