The British car manufacturer Ariel will launch a 1.5-ton super sports car. Four electric motors – one on each wheel – develop a power of 1200 hp, plus an extra gasoline turbine with 48 hp, playing the role of a range extender. The battery, with a capacity of 56 kWh., provides an otherwise mileage of only 240 kilometers.

The new Ariel is a full-fledged electric car and is available with rear- or dual-wheel drive. The car is based on a lightweight aluminum chassis structure and a full carbon body. The battery is lithium-ion with 800-volt technology. Electric range without range extender is 240 kilometers according to WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure). The battery can be charged at home or at any charging station.

The 1200 hp hyper car accelerates in 2.09 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h in its 4x4 variant. Each of the electric motors has 220 kW. (295 hp) and 450 Nm of maximum torque. The rear-wheel drive variant has "only" 440 kW/590 hp. The British company indicates a maximum speed of 250 km/h.

As with many other such models, the emphasis of the hyper car is: high power at the lowest possible weight. The actual weight of the car is currently 1,759 kg, which is not much for such a powerful electric car. However, Ariel engineers want to get the weight below the magic 1.5-ton mark – the finished, manufactured model will weigh 1,499kg.

Auto Trendy’s take:

Here we are with yet another high power and high-speed car that utilizes an electric propulsion system. The current range is not so impressive in the general understanding of vehicle range. Nevertheless, we are talking about a hyper car, which is not usually driven daily, and there is an expected upcoming weight reduction of 260 kilograms, which may affect that range. Thus, we are staying tuned for the final results of Ariel’s creation and the way the market will accept it.
