In Auckland, New Zealand, a new partnership started to make hydrogen-powered buses the way of the future. Green energy supplier, Hiringa Energy, and local transport company, Auckland Transport (AT), have partnered to create hydrogen refueling solutions. They are taking into account the driving route of the bus to make sure that the refueling solution is convenient.
The project has full support from the Auckland mayor, who says that for an ideal emission-free transport solution, both battery electric vehicles and hydrogen electric vehicles need to coexist.
Hiringa is a New Zealand based hydrogen refueling company. As such, it is great for local development that one of their most publicized major clients is the local transport company. They have already done work on energy supply with HYZON Motors, who Auto Trendy have written about in the past.
Auto Trendy’s take:
Most large companies are rushing to release battery electric commercial vehicles to match market demands and regulation changes. As a result, there has not been groundbreaking hydrogen-related news for some time however, the development of this technology is still very relevant and in-demand. At Auto Trendy, we agree with the mayor of Auckland is completely correct in that the zero-emission transport future is not a race between hydrogen and batteries. Rather, the future relies on them to coexist for different transportation necessities.
