Automating lead generation at auto shows

Auto shows are great opportunities for car and car-related companies to generate leads. Anyone who’s been to an auto show can probably remember coming home with a bag full of brochures from the countless companies that they enjoyed learning about. Nowadays, companies usually bring tablets with them to register auto show visitors’ contact information, to which they will send newsletters and offers.

CellARide is a company that is planning to change the way lead generation is done at auto shows. Their marketing system works on text messages alone. They provide ad banners with a code, a phone number, and a promise. The prospects would text the code to the given number and be able to win a financial reward. The only catch is that they would need to test drive a car before being able to collect their cash. This forces them to come down to the dealership and initiate the process of being sold to.

It seems that even at physical events, sales jobs are being automated. It could be that face-to-face salespeople will no longer be needed to sell cars. If such lead generation is automated and paired with a strategy similar to Tesla’s strategy of online sales, then dealerships and the sales teams that come along with them will become obsolete. Although the gift-reward may cost some money, it is still likely cheaper than paying auto show staff plus their commissions.
