For the first time this year, ALPINA intends to sell over 2000 cars. This does not sound like much, but it is a big step for the small producer. This is made possible due to the great activity in the United States. The B7, XB7 and now the B8 Gran Coupé are aimed at overseas customers.
The B8 is based on the M850i xDrive - this is evident from the front bumper on which Alpina has mounted their typical splitter along with the inscription at the bottom to give the restrained impression that this is not an ordinary BMW. At the rear, the elegantly designed exhaust system also demonstrates a different look and emits the characteristic, yet subdued sound of the 8-cylinder engine outside.
Similar to the XB7, the 4.4-liter Bi-Turbo V-8 unit has 621 hp and is equipped with a larger cooling system to keep both turbines in good condition at the higher temperatures of some regions. Although the M8 Competition exceeds the B8 by 4 hp, with a maximum torque of 800 Nm, Alpina here breaks away with 50 Nm from the production version. The sprint of 0-100 km / h takes 3.4 seconds, and the top speed is 324 km / h.
Elegance is also evident in the interior: in terms of individualistic demands, Alpina can do almost anything, in which case the iDrive controller and the automatic transmission lever are covered with clear glass. The first deliveries will start from the third quarter of 2021 starting at the manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) of $139,900.
Auto Trendy’s take:
The B8 ALPINA is an elegant and stylish way for enjoying your long journeys. On top of that it is powerful, more than enough. Even though there are some exterior similarities to the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT4, the unique BMW signature is obvious, and it suits the body type. We, at Auto Trendy, completely believe that ALPINA is capable of achieving its goals of selling 2000 pieces.
