CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2022 has brought forth some amazing technological innovations. One example, that is related to the automotive industry, is the announcement of Innoviz Technologies’ unique single beam 360 degree lidar. Some major automotive OEMs were also present and have showcased outstanding advancements. BMW has surprised everyone when showing the iX Flow concept car, which gives the driver the ability to change the body color.

The same technology can be seen in e-readers. Those of you who have used one before know that there is not much light coming off of the screen and that only shades of grey are available. This is also true of the iX Flow. With the help of a mobile app, the owner is able to choose shades of grey for multiple grey and white color patterns. BMW also claims that no energy is used once the color is selected.

Auto Trendy’s take:

The concept of being able to change your car’s color after you’ve purchased it is really cool. The only downside so far is that you have to be sure that you like color patterns of grey and white. With the current technology being used, it is unlikely that other, more vibrant colors would be used – although it would be great to be wrong on this point.

Whether BMW actually launches the car into production is also to be seen. The company has released tremendously innovative car concepts in the past, such as the Gina, that have not made it into production. That car had the ability to morph the body through user input. Hopefully BMW’s technologies would one day be more than concepts and used in our daily lives.
