Not even a full month ago, Renee Brinkerhoff, an automotive enthusiast, set on her journey to drive across Antarctica. To do this, she used her trustworthy 1956 Porsche 356. This specific 356 was no stranger to travel as Brinkerhoff has used it to compete in rallies on every single continent apart from Antarctica. Given that fact, it becomes quite clear why Brinkerhoff was so enthusiastic to take on this challenge.

Converting the wheels to skis, she started her 356 mile journey. As can be imagined, the weather conditions were not too ideal for a passenger car – and a vintage one nonetheless! This resulted in only 2 out of the car's 4 cylinders functioning during the 5-day journey as well as multiple other mechanical repairs being needed. Brinkerhoff’s mission was successfully accomplished and was even recognized by Porsche, who stated that it was the first time in history that one of the brand’s cars was in Antarctica.

Auto Trendy’s take:

A truly impressive accomplishment by Brinkerhoff. Taking a vintage car that has already been put through harsh competition conditions in previous rallies and taking it to its absolute limit in extremely harsh weather conditions. At Auto Trendy, we would like to congratulate Renee, her team, and her car for completing this brutal feat.
