Daimler Truck, the German giant that recently left the Daimler holding group and went public, has started a new collaboration with Einride. Einride develops solutions for commercial vehicles that are greatly related to electrification and autonomous technology. The company’s own Einride Pod is a great example of Einride’s abilities and understanding of the current market.

The collaboration is set to have Einride deliver 120 of Daimler’s eActros trucks (the 300 and 400 models) to European customers. This is the largest European deal of electric heavy-duty trucks in recorded history. Furthermore, the two brands have joined forces in a partnership to mutually develop new electric solutions.

Auto Trendy’s take:

Although Daimler Truck only announced that the development portion of the collaboration would be set towards electrification solutions, we speculate that development of self-driving solutions would also take place. Currently, Daimler has Waymo as its main developer of autonomous driving, however, it could be in the company’s sight to use Einride’s solutions (such as a remote driver) until autonomous driving becomes fully viable. Hopefully more information will be released in the coming months regarding such development opportunities.
