Air taxis are on the way. In the Middle East, they could be a public reality by 2026. HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, has approved vertiport development plans. The development will result in a network of eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-off and Landing) airports.

Development will be done by RTA (Dubair Roads and Transport Authority), Skysports Infrastructure, and Joby Aviation (American eVTOL manufacturer). The vertiports will be strategically placed at main sites such as the airport, downtown, and the Marina.

Auto Trendy’s take:

Air taxis may not be as they are in the movies – we cannot point at the air and have an air taxi land to pick us up. However they are becoming a reality and will make public transport easier. Rather than taking a taxi and waiting in traffic, we will be able to bypass the road and be at our destination in a fraction of the time.
