EasyMile is an up and coming company specializing in autonomous driving technology. They provide solutions for both passenger and goods solutions with their technology. So far, they have developed buses that are perfectly sized to deal with congestion in urban areas and a heavy-duty tow tractor. If everything goes to plan, they will receive funding to further develop their autonomous technology for heavy commercial vehicles (e.g. trucks) and focus on automating the logistics process.
EasyMile already sells their TractEasy, a truck like vehicle for in house material handling. Their plan is to branch out from in house and make their technology available for heavy commercial vehicles in confined areas and mixed traffic. The plan is to automate the entire distribution process from airport to distribution centers. Some further developments are needed, such as developing the autonomous driving technology to cope with harsh weather conditions.
Auto Trendy’s take:
Autonomous driving is a future trend that is only getting closer and closer. We have seen passenger vehicles increasing their autonomous technologies and have started to see their benefits. As for commercial vehicles, automating them will drastically reduce costs and according to EasyMile could increase safety too. EasyMile plans to roll out the project from 2021-2024, and it would be interesting to see how quick commercial autonomous vehicles take over the roads.
