Israeli company Foretellix has identified a key issue in regard to autonomous driving. The issue at hand is that companies tend to focus on the quantity of miles covered by their autonomous software rather than using a qualitative approach. As such, Foretellix developed their own solution to bring to the market.
This solution is a scenario-generation and analysis platform. The platform uses an open source language called M-SDL and works by generating 100s of millions of driving scenarios based on short descriptions. One example: the autonomous vehicle is cut off by another driver. The platform will generate scenarios that include different driving distances, approach angles, available lanes on the road, and any other scenario types that are programmed.
The goal of Foretellix is to help autonomous vehicle developers validate their products well before they get on the road. Their platform would help developers analyze the behaviors of their vehicles through simulation. These complex simulations will keep people safe and they will also help developers validate their autonomous software and comply with regulations.
Seeing an opportunity with these kinds of simulations, several big-name companies such as Volvo Autonomous Solutions (of Volvo Group) and LG Electronics have already formed partnerships with Foretellix.
Auto Trendy’s take:
Foretellix have developed an amazing solution to autonomous driving testing. Although simulations do not always represent reality – their extremely in-depth scenario planning will help developers of autonomous vehicles use much safer iterations when conducting public testing.
