Heatherwick Studios is a London-based design company which has designed a revolutionary car for IM Motors. IM Motors was jointly founded by SAIC Motor, Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Group, and Alibaba Group in 2020. All three come from China, one of the world’s most polluted countries. Although the company has not been active for too long, the design that was just created for it by Heatherwick Studios is truly enticing.
This car is called Airo. It’s an electric car with self-driving functionality. The interior of the car utilizes a futuristic concept that has been talked about for years. It is flexible with rotating chairs and allows the riders to use it as any kind of room that they may need, be it for dining or for working.
Airo is quite a unique name, and it was likely chosen due to the car’s unique ability to leave the air around it cleaner. The undercarriage of the Airo is fitted with a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air [filter]) system that can theoretically filter any air particulates down to the size of 0.3 microns. Cars driving in front of the Airo may pollute, but as soon as the Airo drives through their split stream, it will clean up the fresh pollution. It is expected to go into production in 2023 and there are currently no technical specifications available.
Auto Trendy’s take:
It’s a shame that there are no specifications available for the Airo, however, it is already clear that power, speed, and even range will not be its unique selling points. There are two main selling points for the Airo: the flexible interior and the filtration system. With the news of the car being so fresh, the effectiveness of the filtration system is still unknown. If it is truly effective, it would be revolutionary for the industry.
