India and soon the world will see a shakeup in the electric two-wheeler market as industry leaders Hero Electric and Mahindra have entered a strategic partnership to promote the growth of electric vehicles. The two companies have rolled out their first electric two-wheeler together, the Optima, from the Pithampur factory.

As Auto Trendy has gathered, Hero Electric needs Mahindra’s help to achieve their aim of producing one million electric vehicles per annum by the end of this year. Under the terms of the partnership, the companies will also jointly produce and develop supply chains and shared platforms for electric two-wheelers.

Optima along with the NYX scooter will be manufactured by Mahindra Group at the Pithampur facility while both companies will also work towards the electrification of Mahindra-owned Peugeot Motorcycles. The two companies aim to create a seamless channel of communication between the R&D teams to build new products and technologies. From now until 2027 the two companies are cooperating to innovate and prosper in the electric vehicle market.

These two companies, Hero Electric and Mahindra Group are among the biggest names in India for automotive innovation and development and the scope of their innovations promises to reach even further than the country’s borders and affect the global market in a big way. This announcement of long-term partnership comes at a time when other players in the sector, including Hero MotoCorp, Ather Energy, Bajaj Auto, Ola Electric and TVS are planning to ramp up electric two-wheeler volumes. We can’t wait to see how this partnership delivers on its promise.
