Texas-based startup, Hyliion, produces powertrains for electric vehicles that either optimize the use of or completely replace diesel/ gas. The company has a goal of reducing emissions while improving operational affordability. Cummins has noticed these efforts and the two have now partnered.
The partnership will have the two developing the “Hypertruck ERX™” and bringing it to the North American Market. By using the Hypertruck ERX powertrain, Cummins’ powertrain would be optimized to achieve environmental certifications for its natural gas combustion engines.
Auto Trendy’s take:
Cummins seems to be taking over automotive technologies through acquisitions and collaborations. It seems that the giant has a foot in the door of every possible path that the industry may go in. The investment costs of such a strategy is likely high but it will surely pay off.
