The focus on hydrogen powered heavy-duty trucks is becoming greater and greater. American fuel- cell powered, commercial vehicle manufacturer, HYZON Motors, have released their new mission of accelerating sustainability goals and having over 100,000 hydrogen powered trucks on the road by 2030.

HYZON Motors was officially established in Rochester, NY in 2020. However the manufacturer is a spin-off of Singaporean Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies. Being that they are a spin-off company, it can be said that they actually have close to 20 years of experience working with and developing fuel cells.

Although they have had many prototypes, including a hydrogen powered racecar, their main goal is to produce commercial vehicles. As such, they have a line of three vehicle platforms: heavy-duty trucks, medium-duty trucks, and buses.

They have already delivered 400 hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles in 2019 alone and have recently received an order of 1500 trucks from Hiringa. Their trucks’ fuel cells have up to 500hp of power and a driving range of up to 600km.

Auto Trendy’s take:

It can be said that HYZON Motors are quite ambitious with their goal of 100,000 trucks sold by 2030. Although ambitious, they could find themselves achieving this goal quite quickly. In fact, all they would need is one large client that needs a fleet to drive all over Europe. Regardless of their 2030 goal however, their mission of accelerating the sustainability of the industry is admirable and exciting.
