Israeli company Innoviz Technologies has spent years focusing on developing LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology for the automotive and logistics industries. Their solution consists of both software and hardware. LiDAR, in automotive applications, is used to detect objects and movement on the road for autonomous vehicles to be able to navigate safely. The Innoviz Technologies Solid-State LiDAR sensor is able to accurately detect objects up to 250 meters away, keeping drivers and passengers safe.
After years of development and factory calibration, Innoviz Technologies is finally running a fully automated supply chain and assembly line. This means that the company is now able to mass produce their products and reach the order requirements of big-name clients. In fact, the current production involves manufacturing LiDAR sensors for all the new vehicles in BMW’s upcoming autonomous line.
Auto Trendy’s take:
Autonomous vehicles are coming sooner than we might have thought. The detection tools that these vehicles need is developing at a staggering rate and already showing key partnerships for upcoming manufacturing such as Innoviz Technologies and BMW, Foretellix and Volvo, or Foresight Automotive and FLIR. Each of these companies is bringing its own solution that could be more beneficial to their specific partners. Either way, the recent news around these technologies shows that the future that we used to see on the big screen is much closer than we think.
