INRIX is a data collecting company that analyzes traffic data. Traditionally, they would analyze the road data through sensors and vehicles together. Now, they have developed INRIX Signal Analytics, the world’s first signal analytics platform that collects its data exclusively from anonymous vehicles. Cities and transportation agencies can now monitor, manage, and measure the performance of road networks and their intersections.

Instead of installing hardware in the intersections, the data is conveniently collected from each car as it is driving in real-time. This data will be used to aid in the control of traffic flow and limit congestion. Such a system could potentially be used to control traffic of autonomous vehicles.

INRIX’s goal is to limit the costs of cities towards traffic infrastructure and improve traffic flow.

Auto Trendy’s take:

INRIX seems to be bringing solutions that will definitely be helpful in the long run. Congestion is a mobility issue that is only getting greater and greater. INRIX brings a solution that will help reduce it, without limiting the vehicles on the road. Additionally, looking toward the future of autonomous vehicles, INRIX Signal Analytics could be a key system equipped in all vehicles to control the traffic and possibly eliminate the need for some traffic infrastructure such as traffic lights.
