Electric luxury cars are becoming more and more common. Although mainstream automotive manufacturers such as Tesla and Mercedes are receiving the majority of the attention in this market, there are smaller and younger companies that are also trying to compete.

One of these companies is Lucid Motors. Lucid Motors have started reservations (preorders) of their first vehicle, the Lucid Air. They chose this name as one of their main aims for their car is to be spacious and comfortable for all passengers. Their other aim is to provide technological innovation in a fashion that would be suitable for future mobility changes.

The car is provided with an intuitive interface, which uses artificial intelligence, to make the driver’s life as convenient as possible. By tracking the driver’s usage patterns, the Lucid interface is able to flawlessly integrate into the user’s digital life. One example is automatically creating playlists. Another example is the interface’s ability to set the driver’s preferred house temperature when the car is within a specific range of the house.

The Lucid Air is also provided with over-the-air software updates. With the car being currently at a Level 2 of autonomy, Lucid Motors say that their software updates will eventually make the car a Level 5 autonomous vehicle. They are also extremely concerned with their users’ safety and have placed over 30 sensors around the Lucid Air in order to track and monitor the road during driving.

Auto Trendy’s take:

Releasing a luxury electric car is not specifically unique to Lucid Motors, but their mentality towards the integration of technology is what sets them apart from others. The first case of utilizing software updates to enable new features was done by Tesla when they implemented autonomous driving on their already driving cars. It is our belief at Auto Trendy that Tesla manufacturing a car with the technological infrastructure to evolve is what positioned them ahead of their competitors. Lucid Motors has a long road ahead of them as a young automotive company, but they are thinking correctly in regard to keeping their vehicles relevant for the long term.
