In 2023, Mercedes will launch the new generation of the E-Class – again on diesel or petrol, as well as in sedan and station wagon versions. However, if you decide to order one of the current generation of the model, you will only be able to order the station wagon version. In Germany, Mercedes stopped orders for the sedan as production was said to be filled. We remind you that since January Mercedes does not accept orders for the G-Class SUV either. So, if you are definitely looking for an E-Class sedan, you will need to look for availability at dealers – or a used car.
According to publications in the German newspapers Stuttgarter Zeitung and Stuttgarter Nachrichten, the suspension of orders was also linked to the shortage of electronic chips, which is a major problem for the entire automotive industry at the moment. The main reason for this challenge is believed to be an effect of the coronavirus crisis on the supply chain.
Auto Trendy’s take:
This news is unfortunate for customers of Mercedes who would like to have one of the best-selling sedan models, but it is also a sign of great results achieved by the manufacturer, considering the high public demand. On the other hand, it is an example of how dependent supply chain players are on each other and how geo-politically they are all bound. We, at Auto Trendy, hope that the effects of the coronavirus crisis will start to decrease soon.
