Nuro has released two impressive autonomous delivery vehicles and has used them to deliver the goods of multiple companies such as Dominos and FedEx. The Californian startup is now ready to start manufacturing its third generation vehicle. Safety seems to be the drive of the new generation.

With an improved sensor suite, the newest generation Nuro vehicle now has a 360 degree view. Furthermore, it is equipped with an external front airbag with the goal of keeping pedestrians and cyclists safe. Nuro has also considered the value it gives its customers and has increased the top speed from 25 mph (40 km/h) to 45 mph (72 km/h), which will boost delivery times.

Auto Trendy’s take:

The new top speed is great for Nuro’s partners. Pizza delivered in 30 minutes or less? No problem! This improvement will also help distributors distribute parcels faster and send the vehicle on more deliveries in a day. The only worry is, “is the external airbag enough to protect a pedestrian in the unlikely case of a collision?” We trust Nuro’s intentions but hopefully we won’t have to find out.
