Packard Performance has been a strong player within powersports for years now. Powersports is a category of motorsports that includes quad bikes, motorbikes, jet skis, and snowmobiles. Having been founded in 2004 means the company has had close to two decades worth of growth. In motorsports, weight is crucial and the lower the weight of a vehicle, the faster that it can go. Packard Performance has partnered with Oribi Composites to bring down the weight of its wheels.

The new wheels are made out of a thermoplastic composite and are 50% lighter than their aluminum counterparts. Furthermore, the wheels show great performance of durability and can handle driving on intense terrain.

Auto Trendy’s take:

Teams in motorsports constantly aim to get the weight of their vehicles lower. Newton’s Second Law of Motion helps us understand why. Force equals to the mass multiplied by the acceleration. The engine only produces so much force, so by lowering the mass, the acceleration can become greater. Halving the mass of each wheel will give racers an incredible amount of weight savings and will give them that edge that they’re trying to get over their competition.
