We have recently seen several electric truck ranges released. Daimler and Volvo have their electric trucks unveiled for Europe, and Peterbilt have just released their very own for the North American market. Although not a full range, Peterbilt’s unique electric truck is already available for order and use by their customers.
The new truck is known as the Model 520 EV and it is based on the already existing Model 520. The truck is to be used for urban tasks such as waste collection. The range will be between 80-100 mph. As every client is likely to need a somewhat different weight distribution requirement, the Lithium Iron Phosphate battery-pack placement can be configured to their specific needs.
Auto Trendy’s take:
Being one of the main truck manufacturers in North America, Peterbilt are facing the challenge of shifting their reliable combustion engine models to ones running on battery electric powertrains. Although a challenge, they likely have the resources and have done the correct testing necessary to release a reliable product onto the market. Another benefit of being one of the first electric truck models in their specific market is that Peterbilt will be able to gain data regarding the reliability of their electric powertrain and other customer demands from clients so they are able to make improvements in the right direction.
