Archer Aircraft was founded in 2018 as an eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft business. In the meantime, it has already partnered with United Airlines as an operating partner and with the United States Air Force as a testing partner. Now is the time for the next step.
Archer Aircraft is planning to start mass manufacturing eVTOL aircraft taxis. To help with this goal, Stellantis has agreed to partner with Archer Aircraft and mass-produce the vehicles. This agreement also included an equity investment from Stellantis that is worth $150 million. At first, 650 vehicles will be produced per year which will eventually be ramped up to 2,300 vehicles annually.
Auto Trendy’s take:
The partnerships that Archer Aircraft has built are quite impressive. United Airlines, US Airforce, and Stellantis. With United Airlines and Stellantis getting so involved, we can speculate that both are strategizing to go into air taxis. For both mobility giants, it would be a surprising yet not-too-illogical move. For Archer Aircraft to be the main driver, would mean fast growth and becoming the main player in eVTOLs.
