Syracuse is not only a city in New York State – it is also the name of an innovative crane automation company. Based in Israel, Syracuse develops autonomous crane technologies in a way that is completely unique to the crane market. Most autonomous cranes simply mimic the behavior of human operators, which only allows for linear movements of the transported load. Syracuse’s technology allows cranes to be operated past the limitations of humans.

A major flaw of cranes – and the main reason for the human limitation – is the sway of the load as it is been transported. This can also be thought of as the load swinging in the air while being moved. This sway has to be kept within certain dimensions, otherwise it could cause unwanted forces on the mechanism. As such, moving the loads in linear motions keeps the sway low.

Syracuse’s solution uses real-time monitoring and movement adjustments that depend on the load sway. By plotting each step of the load’s path, the load can move safely, in non-linear motions, and much faster.

Auto Trendy’s take:

This innovative solution is the perfect example of what makes automation exciting! Syracuse took methods that already existed and turned them into something completely new that surpasses human ability. Truly an intelligent solution that would be very beneficial for all crane-related purposes.
