The air mobility trend is still growing at a quick pace. This time German company Lilium are challenging the regional transportation industry and making travel time between city centers quick and convenient. Their unique jet is said to save a minimum of 30 minutes of travel time and can be requested at any moment through their mobile app.

The jet can sit up to four people and a pilot. Additionally, it is able to take-off and land vertically, which saves space on infrastructure. Speaking of which, Lilium plan to build modular “vertiports” (vertical airports) in major city centers. The size of each vertiport will depend on the flight demand that Lilium receives. Until the vertiports are built, Lilium have already secured partnerships with several airports such as the ones in Dusseldorf, Cologne, and Bonn.

Auto Trendy’s take:

Lilium have understood and targeted several market trends. Their exciting transport solution is emission-free with their electric powertrain, uses ridesharing services, air mobility, and targets saving people time. The idea of this ridesharing jet is spectacular, and Lilium are partnering with the correct organizations to make their dream a reality. There are some challenges however, such as building up and training a team of reliable pilots. Hopefully future iterations of the Lilium jet will be autonomous and more widespread so that the unique market solution will be available to everyone at a relatively low cost.
