When you hear about an electric pickup truck, your mind automatically goes to Tesla’s Cybertruck. Lordstown Motors is an up and coming startup based in Lordstown Ohio which is working on a contender for the Cybertruck. Their model, the Endurance, has several unique features that no other electric pickup truck has.

Different from most electric vehicles on the market, the Endurance has four motors. One in each wheel hub. This results in the world’s first ever All-Wheel Drive (AWD) electric pickup truck. The main benefit of AWD systems is the increased traction that drivers experience when driving with such systems.

Placing the motors directly in the wheel hubs also delivers torque directly to the wheels and limits the number of rotating parts as opposed to other vehicles.

Lordstown Motors has opened up pre-orders for the Endurance and is set to start deliveries in 2021.

Auto Trendy’s take:

Lordstown Motors can’t claim that the Endurance is the first ever electric vehicle with AWD. As automotive engineers, we have seen this technology before. What they can claim is that the Endurance is the first ever electric pickup truck with AWD. Such a system would definitely benefit drivers who utilize their trucks for their intended purpose and drive them off-road. The Lordstown Endurance is a car that off-road drivers who love convenience may think to consider as their next emission-free vehicle.
