TotalEnergies will be Air France-KLM’s supplier of SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) for the coming 10 years. This deal will result in more than 800,000 tonnes of SAF being used. As such, CO2 emissions over the entire lifecycle will be reduced by 80% compared to fossil fuels.
The SAF will be produced by TotalEnergies at its biorefineries. This is not a new process for the French energy manufacturer and can be seen by its refineries, which have been open since 2019.
Auto Trendy’s take:
TotalEnergies needs to adapt to the new forms of energy – electricity, hydrogen, green fuels. SAF is one of the easier products to transition into in terms of supply chain. Not much will change in this regard and TotalEnergies already has decades of know-how on how to transport and store the goods. Manufacturing the fuel should also not be too big of a change. This will enable the company to be successful with less effort when compared to EV charging or solar energy production as they are new for the French giant.
