Toyota has been one of the major market leaders for automotive OEMs with hydrogen propulsion systems. Understanding its value before many of its competitors, Toyota has been showing the capabilities of these systems for years. Understanding this, other OEMs are relying on Toyota’s developments.
Daimler is one of those OEMs. The new eCitaro bus will be fitted with Toyota’s fuel cell technology. The bus will have a power of 60 kW and a range of 400 km. The fuel cell will be used to extend the range of the battery electric bus.
Auto Trendy’s take:
Toyota may not be the largest bus manufacturer in Europe, however, this strategy of providing others with its innovative technology is guaranteed to keep them competitive. Assuming that other vehicle manufacturers will start taking hydrogen as seriously, Toyota could completely grow its brand as the provider of propulsion systems.
