Uber Eats is becoming as innovative as Uber. Although delivering for the last-mile and using small vehicles (such as bicycles) for deliveries, there is still potential for modernization. Using the partnership of Motional and Serve Robotics, Uber Eats will run two pilots for autonomous deliveries.

Motional is an American startup founded jointly by Hyundai and Aptiv to develop autonomous vehicle technology. Serve Robotics is a spin-off that was originally started at Uber. Each of the companies will have its individual pilot in which it will deliver to short routes in Santa Monica and West Hollywood.

Auto Trendy’s take:

It’s time to automate last-mile deliveries in the west. China is already running much larger programs with the Alibaba Group. Now, Uber Eats is bringing this convenience and efficiency to the US. It’s also interesting that Uber Eats is running the pilot with both Motional and Serve Robotics. Each company likely has its own unique benefits that Uber Eats could learn from.
