We have previously reported on Mercedes-Benz and their plan of taking advantage of vehicular software and infotainment to make driving more convenient and enjoyable. Auto Trendy’s article reported that these benefits would only be seen with Mercedes-Benz’s new generation fleet.
Although most of the benefits will only be seen in the future generation, Mercedes are already taking steps to make the driving experience more comfortable via software. They have developed a mobile app called “Mercedes me,” which will connect to current driving Mercedes cars through Bluetooth. With this app, the user would be able to document their driving, track the fuel fill level, and driven mileage through their phone. Additionally, users would no longer need to worry about where they parked as their cars’ parking positions will be stored on their phones along with walking routes to help them find the parked cars. If the car happens to breakdown, the reason would be sent directly to Mercedes and an appointment would be made with the dealership.
Auto Trendy’s take:
Although still far from the vision that Mercedes has with their new generation, “Mercedes me” is likely the first step to developing their future software. The app will already give them feedback from users and the data tracked from their usage. This seems like a win-win scenario in which Mercedes can reliably collect needed data while also adding value to their clients’ already owned vehicles.
