In 2020, Volkswagen began the production of the ID.4. This SUV electric car was supposed to be a car for the masses. Volkswagen even promoted it as a car “for the millions, not the millionaires.” In North America, that still seemed to not be completely the case.

With no production of the ID.4 in North America, it was being imported from abroad. This increased its price. As of now, however, Volkswagen is producing the ID.4 in Tennessee. The plan is to produce 7,000 ID.4s per month and reduce the price.

Auto Trendy’s take:

Local production will eliminate import and tax fees which could make the ID.4 much more affordable. Furthermore, Volkswagen could find local suppliers to produce their components within North America which would even further reduce costs and the price of the end product.
