ID. Buzz Cargo received the prestigious industry award "International Van of The Year 2023" (IVOTY). Carsten Intra, CEO of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, accepted the award from Jarlath Sweeney, Chairman of IVOTY, on Monday at the inaugural "Stars of the Year'' event of the German Automotive Association (VDA).

ID. Buzz Cargo got the desired international distinction even before its market premiere. The car has been developed as an all-electric model and will be issued to its future owners with neutral CO2 emissions. Moreover, the ID. Buzz Cargo, producing 150 kW (204 hp), will have a combined energy consumption in kWh/100 km: 22.2-20.4.

Carsten Intra said: “We are honored to receive this ID. Buzz Cargo award and proud of it. A huge 'Thank you!' to the IVOTY Jury and to everyone at Volkswagen Vans who contributed ID. Buzz Cargo to become the best van in its class.” IVOTY Jury Chairman Jarlath Sweeney presented the award on behalf of all 34 light commercial vehicle journalists who make up the international IVOTY Jury: “It's not often that an entirely new van concept has generated such a great deal of interest in the market. Congratulations to the production department of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for creating this unique model.”

Auto Trendy’s take:

The best of vans for 2023 has its design roots pointing at the VW T1 from the 1950s. Recently, we have noticed other manufacturers going back to some of their first vehicles for design ideas as well. We, at Auto Trendy, wonder whether these are just a few occasional events or a real upcoming trend and we are eager to keep informing you more on this development going forward.
